Additional 4 sluggish projects in Lao Cai asked to halt work

Posted on 15 December 2009 by hoang

Sapa6Lao Cai province people’s committee decided on December 14 to halt performance of the four sluggish projects in the northeast of Sapa Dist.

These are the two investment projects of complexes of hotels, restaurant and recreation areas; a 100-hectare golf course projects with Saigon Tourism Corp as the main investor, and the resort complex project located in the northeast of Sapa Town, with Sapa PetroVietnam Insurance JSC as the main investor.

Previously, the local authority had issued official documents to halt performance of 33 investment projects, and to allow 16 projects to extend their investment progress until December 31, 2009, and the other six projects to continue being carried out. The main reasons for stop carrying out the projects were because the investors failed to conduct the research works and prepare for the application profile in order to submit to the functional authorities for approval in time. As for the extended projects, if the investors cannot submit the projects’ profiles to the local Department of Planning and Investment before December 31, 2009 to apply for investment certificate, the projects will become invalid.

Pham Van Cuong, vice chair of Lao Cai province people’s committee stated that in the near future, the local authority would continue check the implementation progress of those projects that have already received investment licences. If the investors fail to prove their capacity to carry out the projects as committed, the local authority will revoke the certificates in accordance with the state laws.

La Veranda, B.B. Dai Minh in hotel deal

Posted on 03 December 2009 by hoang

veranda developHCMC – La Veranda Joint Venture Co., the owner of La Veranda Resort and Spa on Phu Quoc Island, on Wednesday clinched a deal with South Korea’s B.B. Dai Minh Corporation to jointly develop a hotel in HCMC.

“We will be investing together with B.B. Dai Minh for a new Ibis hotel in District 7,” said Jean-Pierre Gerbet, general director of La Veranda Joint Venture Co.

He told the Daily after the signing of the deal that the French company had invested in Viethan Hotel Joint Stock Co., which was set up by B.B. Dai Minh Corp. to develop the 3-star Ibis Saigon South Hotel project.

Lee Young Hoon, chief executive officer of B.B. Dai Minh Corp., said Viethan had planned around US$11 million for the hotel project and that this investment would be contributed by B.B. Dai Minh and La Veranda depending on their stakes in Viethan.

The Ibis Saigon South Hotel on Hoang Van Thai Street in the new urban town of Phu My Hung is scheduled for groundbreaking in March next year and opening in February 2012.

Lee said the company should have begun work on the hotel in 2008 but had had to delay it because the tourism industry had felt the pinch of the economic downturn.

B.B. Dai Minh was waiting for more major infrastructure and commercial projects inside and outside District 7 to go online to ensure that business of the Ibis hotel will fare well when it is up and running.

Gerbet also attributed the delay to the re-designing of the hotel project as this work took at least six months.

“I think 2010 will be a good time for us to begin construction on the Ibis hotel project,” Lee said. The hotel will have some 170 rooms as well as meeting rooms, a café, gym and bar, among others.

B.B. Dai Minh has hired Accor Group to manage the hotel with Ibis, which is one of the hotel brands of the international hotel operator. Accor now manages 11 hotels across Vietnam with such higher-grade brands as Sofitel, Novotel, MGallery and Mercure.

The Ibis Saigon South Hotel is expected to be the first operational property in Vietnam to bear Accor’s Ibis brand.
La Veranda is also teaming up with B.B. Dai Minh Corp. for other property projects in Vietnam, including a high-end resort on Phu Quoc Island off mainland Kien Giang Province and a 250-hectare LA Golf and Villas project in Long An Province in the Mekong Delta

U.S. media firm hired to promote Do Son golf resort

Posted on 16 September 2009 by hoang

Do Son Seaside Golf ResortDo Son Seaside Golf Resort in the northern port city of Haiphong has employed the U.S.-based company Mandarin Media to assist with publicity at home and abroad.

“Our top priority is to gain a foothold in the increasingly competitive Asian market from the outset. Based on its golf knowledge and track record with other courses in this region, Mandarin Media puts us in the best position to achieve that,” Joe Millar, general manager of Do Son Seaside Golf Resort, said in a statement sent to the Daily.

Mandarin Media partner James Sullivan told the Daily yesterday that theme newspapers and magazines were among the channels used to promote the golf course in and outside Vietnam.

“We aim to elevate the profile of Do Son and get it on the golf map,” Sullivan said. He added Mandarin also provided event coordination, photography consultation, translation assistance and newsletter services under a one-year initial agreement with the resort.

Do Son Seaside Golf Resort opened the back nine holes for play last December, and October is the schedule for opening the front nine holes at the resort, located on a curved stretch of Do Son Beach.

The new holes will solidify the standard 18-hole resort as a fully realized golf destination and enable the golf course to better serve the populous Haiphong city market.

“Our opening comes at just the right time for this area,” Millar said. He added that Vietnam Airlines now offered service between Haiphong and HCMC three times per day, and the city’s local, business and expatriate communities continued to grow.

Jetstar Pacific also flies daily between HCMC and Haiphong. Thus, this golf course is expected to lure more domestic and overseas visitors, who want to play golf during their trips to northern coast attractions including Cat Ba National Park and the UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay.

Ngan Anh Tourism and Trading Co. Ltd. has invested VND600 billion (some US$33.6 million) out of the VND4.5 trillion needed for the whole project.

The project got off ground in June 2006. Other components of the project are 630 villas, school, hospital, and commercial area comprising of shopping and entertainment centers, supermarket and park.

Sullivan said Mandarin Media now had 31 clients with the majority based in Vietnam. Its full-service golf clients in Vietnam are the golf club Dalat Palace, Ocean Dunes, Montgomerie Links and Do Son. (Saigon Times)

Unique combination of sea, lagoon

Posted on 21 August 2009 by hoang

hientrangThe management board of the Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula Tourist Resort and Cam Lam District People’s Committee has just announced a detailed plan (scale: 1/2.000) of the Khanh Hoa Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula Tourist Resort (Sites 5, 6, 7). The plan provides a legal basis for investment projects, facilitating comprehensive technical infrastructure development and the management of architecture space and scenery.

Nguyen Phuong Nga, Institute of Architecture, Urban & Rural Planning says the locations is the last sites of Khanh Hoa Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula Tourist Resort to be mapped out. Located west of Nguyen Tat Thanh Avenue, the location of the Sites 5, 6 and 7 is very advantageous with a 7.5-km lagoon shore. This is an outstanding lagoon feature that needs promoting with typical tourism services.

The water surface space can also become a great location for a variety of water-oriented recreational activities. Balis ecological salt-mash forest, a famous tourist attraction, is a good example for the idea. Besides, white sand hills and Thuy Trieu Lagoon situated next to Hon Troc Mountain also add to natural gifts offered to Cam Ranh Peninsula to become a typical lagoon resort.

The common principle for the construction of the tourist site is to promote natural values by adding some features to enrich the natural beauty without negative aspects on the environment. Nguyen Phuong Nga said, “Favorable conditions will be created for local residents to join hands to promote tourism. Besides planting a salt-mash forest, some prawn ponds will be kept to form an ecological salt-mash park.”

Nguyen Xuan Ha, Chairman of Cam Lam District People’s Committee says after the project announcement as a legal procedure and favorable condition for local residents to access the project, Cam Lam District People’s Committee has directed local authorities and relevant agencies to enhance its management over the land use of households, organizations and individuals to prevent illegal construction, land occupy and land use for wrong purposes. Besides supervision enhancement, local authorities are responsible for encouraging residents to carry out the policy to appeal investment into the region.
